Once again, I find myself sitting in front of my computer screen starting a new blog entry for a new international volunteer program. This past December, when I ultimately ended up going to Guatemala to teach kids English (kaylainguatemala.blogspot.com), I mentioned how I thought about going to Ghana, but decided against it because two weeks wasn't enough time. But four weeks is, so in just a hours, I will be headed to Accra, Ghana! I'll be working with a non-profit based out of the UK called Akosia. You can check out more about them here: http://www.akosia.org/
I will be working with eight others from all over the world on a film project with kids and teens in the capital city. We will be teaching the kids the art of filmmaking, as well as working on a project ourselves. On this team, I will be filling the role of Field Coordinator, meaning I will help manage the team I am working with, as well as the children and the project in the field.
I will be headed to Ghana for the entire month of August for the duration of the project. I had so much fun working with the kids on the Guatemala project, so I'm sure this will be as equally as amazing. And I'm pretty excited for this trip considering that it will be my first trip to Africa. From what I have heard, Ghana is a great place to start on the African continent. I'll be living in the capital city, and this will be the closest to the Equator that I've ever been (although the last two weeks in New York City were way hotter than it is in Ghana!). When I go some places, I have a slight idea of what to expect, but with Accra, I purposely stayed away from Google Images, so I can only imagine what it will be like once I arrive.
The first few days, I'll be settling in, so after that, I hope to have some exciting blog posts to follow!
Have an amazing time!
